Call me Naomi.
I live in Portsmouth, in the UK. I’ve started this website because writing, like any discipline, it must be honed.
You’ll see this in my writing-related posts of my blog, The Art and Science of Wordsmithing. Writing is a science because it has Rules to Follow. It’s an art because sometimes it’s best to Break the Rules. I’ll refine your instinct for knowing when to break them.
People often elevate writing above games in terms of an art form. Aside from how problematic the idea of high art and low art is, it’s simply not true. Game devs have to make so many crucial decisions when it comes to their games that are inextricably tied with writing: setting, character, story. And not all of it is in the script. I’ll show you how video games have infused my writing and why that is a good thing.
And finally, you’ll get an insight into the unique perspective of a writer who is disabled, deaf and visually impaired. Disabled people live in a much different world than abled people. Like all worlds, real and fictional, it has good qualities and bad. Let me be your guide.
For my visitors who would rather be my clients than my readers, I’ll tell you what you’re really wanting to know about me.
I’m a freelance writer specialising in website copy and blog and article content writing. I also dabble in short and flash fiction stories.
I craft my words like a blacksmith tempers their sword – sharp and straight to the point.
Every word has a purpose. The same principles of short story writing pioneered by such eminent authors as Chekov and Hemingway guide me in my copy and content.
I could say I’m passionate about writing. It’s true. But every writer says that. I could say that I love seeing people enjoy what I write. That’s definitely true. But every writer says that.
So what do I say?
Writing matters.
I’ve seen writing change hostility into compassion. I’ve seen it change confusion into understanding. I’ve seen it change disconnection into community.
You don’t need to be an author’s protagonist to change the world. One tiny change a day builds up and up into a better world.
Let’s change things together, through the power of writing.
